Ever wonder what it’s like to finish last?
Today, I want to share a story about commitment, resilience, and the power of showing up—even when things feel impossible. 💪
Recently, my training didn’t go as planned. Actually, it went really badly. I felt unprepared, but I had made a promise to myself, and despite everything, I toed the start line. Let’s be real—sometimes it’s better to DNF (Did Not Finish) than to DNS (Did Not Start). I knew my friends, my partner, and the amazing running community would be out there cheering me on, and I HAD to show up—no matter how much I wanted to back out.
The race day was brutal. It was HOT. It was smokey. The course was relentless, and out of 97 runners, 27 didn’t make it to the end. Somehow, despite every reason to stop, I crossed that finish line. Dead last. Literally the very last person to finish. But you know what? I DID it. I showed up, pushed through, and proved to myself that I could do hard things—even when I didn’t think I could.
This is what recovery looks like. This is what life looks like. It’s about showing up, especially when it’s hard, and leaning into community. We’re capable of incredible things, and they’re always better when done together. 🧡
Thank you, @daybreakracing, @wyeastwolfpack, and all the phenomenal volunteers who made this day possible. And a deep bow of gratitude to the ancestral homelands of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde (Warm Springs, Wasco, and Pauite) where we ran this race.
Remember, we can do hard things—and they’re always worth it.
